GDPR Compliance

The UK GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is a UK law that came into effect on 1st January 2021. GDPR impacts the way data is managed and affects all businesses. Failure to comply with these regulations could result in a maximum fine of €20 million (about £18 million) or 4% of the organisation’s annual global turnover – whichever is greater.

Implementing a document management system or solution can help your business or organisation achieve compliance and ensure that it continues to meet these standards and comply with future legislation.

What are the key principles of GDPR?

  • Lawfulness: Information processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently in relation to individuals.
  • Purpose: Information collected for specified, explicit, and legitimate purposes and not further processed in a manner that is incompatible with those purposes.
  • Data: Adequate, relevant, and limited to what information is necessary in relation to the purposes for which it is processed.
  • Accuracy: Personal data shall be accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date; any inaccuracies must be rectified without delay.
  • Limitation: Ensuring information is kept for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which it is processed.
  • Security: Data processed in a manner that ensures adequate security, including protection against unauthorised or unlawful processing, loss, destruction, or damage.
